What are the requirements to apply under this class?

To apply for the Federal Skilled Trades program under Express Entry, you need to mee the following minimum requirements:

  • You must take an approved language test showing that you can write and read (at CLB (Canadian Language Benchark) 4); speak and listen
    at CLB 5; if tested in French, you need to demonstrate reading and writing (at NCLC 4) and speaking and listening (at NCLC 4).

Your immigration consultant can provide you with guidance to ensure that you have sufficient language skills to work in your trade. This is an important criterion because many trades require you to speak to and understand the technical needs of other professionals.

How much experience do I need to qualify under this class?

You need to have at least 2 years of full-time work experience or its part-time equivalent in a skilled trade during the previous 5 years. You also need to show that you became qualified to work independently in that trade.
